The Hope of the Gospel

There are many things in the natural that we can have hope in. When we find ourselves in any unfavorable situation or circumstance, our attitude should always be one of hope. Hope that the ways things are, no matter how difficult, will not always be! The Bible definition of hope is, “the confident expectation of good!”

We may have hope for provision. Hope for health. Hope for happiness and peace. Hope for our family, our children and grandchildren to become all that God has created them to be. Hope for our relationships, a successful marriage, a successful business. Hope can be for a variety of things in our lives, but I want to talk to you specifically about a hope that will cause all our other hopes to be realized! One that never fails, and that is what the Bible calls “the hope of the gospel!” If the devil can rob us of the hope we have in the gospel, he can ensnare us and take us captive at his will as it talks about in 2Ti. 2:26. I assure you, that the quality of life you enjoy, will depend on how much hope you have, and how strong your hope is in the gospel!

 Col. 1:21 says, “And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, (NOTICE WHERE YOU WERE AN ENEMY?) (parenthesis mine), yet now hath he reconciled 22  In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

 There are forces at work that are trying to move us away from our hope that has already been established for us in the gospel! That’s why it’s vital for us to understand the power of the gospel! Paul said in Ro 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. It is the power of God unto salvation, (definite article: meaning the gospel is the one and only power of God unto salvation which is deliverance from every evil – parenthesis mine); to everyone that believeth! The power that leads everyone who believes into deliverance from every evil! That is a sure thing; an unshakable, unchangeable promise that we can have hope in!

No wonder the enemy is so bent on trying to rob us of our hope! Ro 12:12-14  says we are to Rejoice in hope; be patient in tribulation; continuing always in prayer! Notice that hope rejoices! If you want to really get established in hope, just start rejoicing in it and watch it explode in within you! It will drive out fear and discouragement every time!

Notice in Heb. 6:19, the sureness and steadfastness of hope! It says, “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;  It is called an “anchor of the soul”, which takes us “into that within the veil”! Within the veil is in the very Shekinah glory and presence of the Father! That’s where the power is! Heb 7:19 says, ” For the law made nothing perfect, (the law in any aspect or performance of!) (parenthesis mine), but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God. See how it is hope that perfects us and is hope that draws us nigh to God?

Again, no wonder the enemy wants to rob us of our hope, but you don’t have to let him! Heb 3:6 says that, “Christ is a son over his own house; whose house are we, IF WE HOLD FAST THE CONFIDENCE AND THE REJOICING OF THE HOPE FIRM UNTO THE END.” Hold fast to the hope you have in the gospel with all that is within you! It is an anchor of the soul that will hold you solid and steadfast in the midst of the any and every storm in life you face!

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
